For Immediate Release: March 21, 2017
Pure Energy Velo (501c-3 charitable non-profit organization) is proud to present Fearless Femme Racing for 2017! The team returns two riders from 2016 and three new exciting team additions. Fearless Femme has ongoing partnerships with the top cycling equipment brands, as well as non-bike industry businesses that heavily support women’s cycling and bicycle advocacy. The race calendar will maintain its focus on PRT criteriums and one-day UCI races, such as Winston-Salem, Gatineau and the Colorado Classic.
Fearless Femme is a small yet mighty team, chartered to compete in the most challenging races across North America, against some of the top talent in the world! In 2016, Pure Energy Velo began a scholarship development program for a young, ambitious female rider so that she can train and race alongside seasoned riders, as part of a cycling curriculum. Paige Shumskas was a successful graduate of the program and earned a renewal onto the team for 2017! Pure Energy Velo has a passionate mission to inspire, promote and support cycling on multiple levels. In addition to racing bicycles across the country, Fearless Femme racers will attend school and club events to lead rides, speak about women’s cycling and advocacy, maintenance clinics and charity events for youth cycling. Pure Energy Velo and Fearless Femme would like to make a difference on and off the bike and create positive change in the community through cycling.
About the Team
Fearless Femme Racing is privileged to have two-time Track Individual Pursuit World Champion (2015-Paris, 2016-London) Rebecca “Beck” Wiasak joining the team! Hailing from Australia, Beck anchors the team with a top-end speed and international racing experience that will complement the younger riders on the squad. When asked about the opportunity to race in the United States for a non-UCI team, Beck responded, “I have watched from afar, as many of my Aussie friends have raced for the team and been a big fan of the team culture. My track commitments have never allowed me to race in America, but when I had the opportunity this year I had no hesitation in joining Fearless Femme.” It is an unprecedented honor to have Beck Wiasak leading the Fearless charge in 2017!
Lucy Bechtel, also from Australia, returns to Fearless Femme for the second straight year. Her aggressive riding style and ability to adapt to any race condition makes her an invaluable asset. Paige Shumskas, 2016’s Scholarship Development Rider, also returns to the team as the youngest rider at age 17, with an intense full season under her belt. New riders include Flora Yan from Plano, TX and Kyrstin Bluhm from Nashville, TN. Flora, at only age 20, has race experience in many of most challenging stage and criterium races in the US, all while attending medical school. Kyrstin arrives to the team with a strong sprint! A senior in college, Kyrstin was a guest rider for Fearless at Gateway Cup and finished Top 10 GC! With teamwork and role players being key, Fearless Femme is poised to compete for every race win!
About the Sponsors
Fearless Femme is proud to maintain all of its sponsors from previous years. Vie13 continues to provide innovation-leading skinsuits, jerseys and bibs. Gary and Theresa Cliff-Ryan, owners of Vie13 and former World Class level bike racers themselves, add an experience and obsession to detail that provides a competitive advantage.
Fearless Femme will be riding Kask helmets again, and much like Vie13, the attention to detail, style and safety is top priority. Joining the wheel program of ROL Wheels and Schwalbe tires is Orange Seal Cycling which is providing sealant and critical puncture protection. Eddy Merckx Bicycles is equipping the team with the San Remo 76. The iconic Eddy Merckx continues to be a part of the design of the bikes and encourages a tradition of winning with grit and fearlessness.
Non-bike industry partners remain with local New Jersey businesses like Shammy Shine Car Washes and TayganPoint Consulting, both companies that promote cycling to their employees and community. Fearless Femme is fortunate to be teaming with businesses who have a community and altruistic mission such as Piscitello Law, a local Philadelphia Law practice which focuses on motor and bicycle related accidents. Joseph Piscitello himself is an accomplished cyclist and corporate sponsor of the Philadelphia Bicycle Coalition and Cadence Youth Cycling Program.
The Happy Tooth Foundation merges with Pure Energy Velo, both non-profit charities that have been involved with cycling for many years, to grow their grassroots cycling programs for youth and women’s cycling. Led by the Happy Tooth Foundation, both organizations will participate in a Summer Triathlon Camp for at risk children and educate about food insecurity and advocacy of cycling and healthy living choices. “The Happy Tooth Foundation is proud to partner with Pure Energy Cycling and Fearless Femme to bring about social change through cycling,” as expressed by Dr. Larry Moray, President of The Happy Tooth Dental Group.
TEVA Respiratory joins Fearless Femme Racing as a renewed sponsor in competitive cycling. TEVA has been a meaningful corporate sponsor of many cycling entities, including The Velodrome, Bucks County Classic and Philly Classic.
Pure Energy Cycling will remain as the Service Course and home base for the team in Lambertville, NJ.
Media partner thINK Communications Group will continue to provide creative support for Fearless Femme through graphic design, social media and web development.
